The Thinker by Rodin, Courtesy of Wikipedia
The Thinker above, originally The Poet, is looking down at the gate to Hell in deep thought with pity. By some or all, the sculpture represents poet Dante Alighieri or his poetry, respectively (a work of French sculptor Auguste Rodin). The Vatican honors poet Dante Alighieri, considering him the father of the Italian language. An English-translated PDF of the Vatican website content is available at this first Mega link MEGA: The Vatican, Viaggiare con Dante.
